On 20 May 2003 the monument to academician Mykhaylo Kravchuk, an outstanding mathematician of the 20th century, was erected on the Muzeyna Square of the National Technical University "Kyiv polytechnic institute".
These data were presented by Lucius Kaflish, a judge of the European Court on human rights, a professor of the jus gentium of the Institute of international relations in Geneva. The editorial board of "Prava ludyny" comments the note.
Ombudsperson Nina Karpacheva told at the seminar for the regional mass media that the number of the complaints connected with the violations of human rights handed by journalists increased during several last years. N. Karpacheva also got the highest award of the Union of journalists of Ukraine for the support of the representatives of mass media and the persistent protection of journalists.

The Appeal court of the Lviv oblast partly satisfied the claim of Bogdan Kufrik, a journalist of the Lviv newspaper "Express", against Lviv mayor Lubomir Buniak, who exceeded his authority demanding from the journalist to leave the hall of the Lviv town council, where the press conference of the mayor was hold.

This year the Lugansk public committee for human rights protection conducts the investigation of the level of freedom of local newspapers. The results showed almost complete dependence of district newspapers on local power organs.
Chenivtsy governor Teofil Bauer declared that would call away the claims against mass media and journalists "for the sake of public order", since these claims can become a destabilizing factor in the process of the development of the regional informational space." He asked all mass media of the region "to leave their ambitions and to begin the constructive dialog".

The Kyiv organization of the National union of journalists of Ukraine supported the Chernivtsy journalists community, who demanded "to stop the savage pressure exerted by the insolent authorities on the freedom of speech and democratic principles stipulated by the Constitution". The public resonance and the support on the side of the all-Ukrainian journalist union made the Chernivtsy authorities to retreat.
