Olexandr Kudinov is only one of many hostages currently held by militants from the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, but his imprisonment is a particularly blow to Donetsk SOS since Kudinov was himself rescuing people from the area of conflict.

As reported, 47-year-old Kudinov disappeared in Donetsk on Sept 22, and he is now thought to be a prisoner in the basement of the SBU building in Donetsk.

Over the last 6 months Kudinov played an active role, without fanfare and on a voluntary basis, in evacuating people from the areas of conflict in Donbas. According to Donbas SOS, he managed to get hundreds of people out, regardless of their political views, etc.  He was concerned first and foremost for their safety.

A former police officer, Kudinov has been active for years in defending people’s rights in Mariupol where he lives, and in the region.

Donbas SOS is calling on any member of the public who could have an influence on the militants to help obtain Oleksandr Kudinov’s swift release.  They say that they are defending one of the best people in their region and that, freed, he will be able to help many more people.
