Civic call to opposition leaders to choose one candidate

18.01.2014
An appeal is open for endorsement to the three leaders of the opposition parties: Arseny Arsenyuk (Batkivshchyna); Vitaly Klitschko (Udar) and Oleh Tyahnybok [VO Svoboda], as well as Petro Poroshenko calling on them to decide on one leader now for the sake of united resistance

An appeal is open for endorsement to the three leaders of the opposition parties: Arseny Arsenyuk (Batkivshchyna); Vitaly Klitschko (Udar) and Oleh Tyahnybok [VO Svoboda], as well as Petro Poroshenko.  It calls on them to decide on one leader now.

The appeal, launched by prominent intellectuals and public figures, states:

“The current regime has usurped power and blocked all paths to a law-based and democratic resolution of public political conflict. The plans of the ruling regime in Ukraine and of the Kremlin are clear: to “purge” democracy in Ukraine and subjugate it.”

The appeal explains that these plans are being countered by Maidan, that is the mass EuroMaidan movement.  EuroMaidan is well enough organized to not create the impression of anarchy and chaos, they say, however all too vulnerable as it is not headed by a single political leadership.

It would be criminal under these conditions for the leaders of the opposition to continue an undeclared pre-election campaign aimed at 2015.

The appeal stresses that each is supported by a certain part of those protesting, however their wisdom and professionalism will be assessed by their ability to unite all parts into one strategically mobilized protest “army”.

There must be a single leader of the movement resisting dictatorship.

The signatories end by stating that the hour of truth has come and that the opposition leaders should either find it within themselves to choose a single leader, or be forced to leave the stage.

“Enough of empty slogans.

The eyes of Maidan are upon you.

It is your choice”.
