08.02.07 | www.imi.org.ua

Ukrainian human rights groups did not succeed in bringing real human rights defender, Yevhen Zakharov., a person enjoying real support in his professional milieu, to the post of Human Rights Ombudsperson, He received the votes of only 152 Deputies.

Nina Karpachova, elected from the Party of the Regions, gained 253 votes. Since the last parliamentary elections Ms Karpachova has lost the support of human rights circles which did not stop her retaining influence in parliament.
