The National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council has cited the scope of providers’ economic activities although it previously imposed penalties for arbitrary changes to the list of channels.

The Broadcasting Council’s Press Service has denied that the Council passed any decisions to remove TV channels from the package under the trade name Triolan without the relevant applications from companies.  This came after it was reported that TVi had disappeared from the programmes offered by Triolan.

The press statement asserts that decisions about channels are in the hands of the providers.  Telekritika, however, points out that the Broadcasting Council usually reacts negatively to any changes in the providers’ programme package where these are made before amendments are made to the licence as demanded by the provisions of the law on licensing providers. The Council views this as an infringement and issues a warning about a discrepancy between the actual and licence lists of TV channels.

As reported, the independent TV channel TVi which has been subjected to serious Tax Administration checks and whose Director is facing charges of “tax evasion”, disappeared from the Triolan packages for 11 cities.  Triolan says that this is in connection with repairs to equipment.

Around 200 thousand viewers are affected in Dnipropetrovsk; Donetsk; Kharkiv; Kyiv; Luhansk; Odessa; Poltava; Simferopol; Sumy and Chuhuyev (Kharkiv oblast).
